Project: BBC Broadcasting House, Leeds
Application: High-rise Multi-use Structure

The high-rise prestigious and contemporary façade design of the stunning new tower and low level buildings at Leeds Metropolitan University work with the original stone-clad, listed building to provide a spectacular new teaching and student accommodation. The tower, rising to over 69 metres and accommodating 240 bespoke student accommodation units, is one of the largest highrise buildings clad with Corten Steel rainscreen applied directly to the Envirosips backing wall system.

Once installed, the Envirosips panels offered a flexible substrate for the fixing of the Corten steel panels and also provided simple interface details with other trades such as windows. The fast installation of the system provided additional benefits in reducing the time it takes to get the building ‘weathered in’, allowing internal trades to commence with works sooner and thus reducing the overall construction time.

  • EnviroSips backing wall provided high levels of integral insulation and low air leakage
  • Use of EnviroSips panels ensured fast build time, and cost savings
  • EnviroSips panels system was designed to accommodate structural movemen
  • EnviroSips panels offered long term durability of 60 years plus.
